The United Nation Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID) was approved by the United Nations initiative by the Secretary-General in 2006 and launched after comprehensive worldwide consultations with governments, the private sector, civil society, the technical and Internet communities and academia to promote policy dialogue and multistakeholder partnerships for action for the use of ICT for advancing the MDGs. GAID is a follow-up activity of the UN World Summit on Information Society and its Action Plan from 2005 which emphasized the importance of ICT in achieving the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). www.un-gaid.org |
